Private utility locating

Understand more of the site before excavation.

Mark It Private Locating investigates underground infrastructure that may be privately installed or property-controlled and outside standard public utility markings.

Public + private

Standard utility markings may not cover every line on a property.

The 811 process coordinates markings from participating utility owners. Privately installed lines beyond a provider's service point or serving owner-controlled features may remain unmarked and require a separate private locate.

We begin with the project address, planned work, and work area so the investigation can be scoped around the site.

Complete required 811 notification before digging and follow the instructions provided through the public utility notification process. Our services complement that process.

Outbuildings

Owner-installed electric, water, or communications lines may extend from a primary structure to a garage, shed, or other feature.

Outdoor systems

Irrigation, landscape lighting, propane, and similar property systems may cross a planned work area.

Complex properties

Commercial and managed sites may contain private infrastructure connecting buildings, equipment, or operational areas.

When to discuss a private locate

Connect the locate to the planned work.

Private locating can add valuable site information before trenching, grading, installing a fence, adding landscaping, or beginning other work that disturbs the ground. Site conditions, access, and available information all shape the investigation.

Our team communicates the findings using the markings or project information appropriate to the requested service.
